Blog post for September 29th
The Grade fours have been busy creating their Lorax presentation to share with the class. They have refined their ability to creatively represent their thoughts and ideas about Waste in Our World. With our presentations over, we will be moving forward into how waste breaks down and what types of waste cannot break down. Want a head start on the topic? Visit this link: https://wonderville.org/asset/waste-avengers In math students have continued their development of math facts, math warm up activities and basic problem solving. Students learned 4 different warm up activities and spent 2 classes exploring each activity. Students then completed a practice activity where they worked through each of the 4 tasks. This led students into their first independent assignment where they had to do each of the 4 tasks without support of their peers. This is the assignment they have brought home on September 28th with the reflection. The assessment was based on their ability to complete each section independently and created a benchmark of what skills they will need to further develop. Students had 30-40 minutes to work through the task. Students had 25 minutes to write their reflections. Now with these activities at home, students can continue to practice these skills with you. Next week we will continue to work on number fact warm-ups during math as well as short problem solving questions. An area of our warm ups are now focused on estimation. Estimating visual images as well as numbers and math equations. For example: Estimate the follow math equations 459+189=? 209+99=? 1102+1690=? More estimation practice?
