Welcome to the 31st week of School at NCS! This week has been a fun week here at Nose Creek. We've done a variety of different things! Most notably, 4A and 4C went to the Shepard Landfill and Compost Facility on Tuesday! Our tour guide told us lots of interesting information, and we got to see many sections of the waste management area. As of earlier this year, Shepard Landfill has no longer been accepting residential waste - so the landfill did look a little bit different, but was still quite interesting to see. We got to see many stages of a "cell" which is where the garbage/waste is stored, once it's been sorted. We also got to see the brand new compost facility, and learn a bit more about waste reducing initiatives that the City of Calgary has been working towards. See below for a few photos of our trip! We've also been working on many other things this week! Students have continued to share their creation stories with both 4A and 4C in flex this week. The stories are very creative, and it's great to have all of the students sharing as one big group! We've also had a small amount of time to read this week (a little bit less than usually though, due to field trips, and other activities planned)! We've mainly been working on furthering our understanding of the early explorers and fur traders that traveled across Canada to Alberta. We've watched videos of voyageurs and their life! We've also read lots about them. We learned what challenges they faced, as well as, why they might have decided to become a voyageur. We learned about how they traveled, where they traveled, and what they did! Thursday, we wrote letters from the perspectives of the voyageurs. Some of the letters were very creative, and We've also begun to learn about the Metis, and their lives! Additionally, we've been looking at maps, writing down key notes, and learning how to use/read/create a timeline. On Friday, we worked on our April Monthly Letters, and worked on a design challenge with other students from grade 4! We did our first school-wide design challenge in February, and now everyone has a second change to do some hands on problem solving and creating! The grade 4's saw a small presentation that the teachers put together, and then got started! They had to try and create a "Critter Carnival" attraction/ride. They had some great ideas, and everyone had a great time working together on the task! Below you will see a few photos of our design challenge work! Important Information:
