Welcome to the 34th week of school at NCS! This week has flown by! In humanities, we've continued to learn about settlers who came to Alberta. We learned more about ranching and farming, about how groups of immigrants kept their cultural identity/language/traditions alive, and about how Alberta became a province! We learned about some of the main reasons why Alberta decided to join Confederation, how borders were decided, and the impact it had on Alberta and it's citizens. Students have been asking really insightful questions, and engaging in discussions - way to go 4A and 4C! We've continued to look at maps, reading passages, perspectives and information about what life was like in the late 1800's and early 1900's. We'll be continuing on with this unit for a couple of more weeks before we have our quiz in late May. We also began a creative in class group task- our mind maps! Students were asked to look back through their notes/think about in-class discussions, and come up with a few key points to put on our mind map. Then, we created these mind maps in a collaborative way! All ideas were created by the students, and they came up with many important ideas! We've left some blank space for future important ideas. Please see photos below! The students know this will be another resource for them to study from, and it's a great way to organize information onto on key page (another study tip for students). We've continued to read in class daily, sometimes for up to 30 minutes! Way to go Grade 4's! This week was week 16 for spelling. We didn't have a chance to share any Creation Stories this week- but we'll be back to presenting and sharing stories next week! Many students have already had the chance to present, and are now practicing being good audience members, while hearing about many creative ideas! This week was mental health and wellness week! On Wednesday, we talked about ways to relieve stress, and we did mindful coloring! Students did a great job with their coloring, and brought home their pages yesterday! Please see below for a few photos! Important Information:
