Welcome to the 35th week of school at NCS this year!
I can't believe how quickly the end of the year is approaching! In only a month or so, school will be done for the year, and our grade 4 students will be off to grade 5! Time really does fly. This week was a short week, but we managed to accomplish lots of things! Students worked on spelling week 17 this week, it was sent home on Tuesday. We've also managed to get lots of reading time in this week! Students have been requesting that we read for 30 minutes instead of 20 minutes (some students even wanted an hour a day of reading)! It's really amazing to see how they've all grown as readers, and how they all seem to really enjoy finding a book and expanding their imaginations! We also have been working to finish our unit on the peoples of Alberta! We've continued to lear about the immigrants and settlers that came to Alberta! We also learned about the many challenges they faced, including the drought of the 1930s, and the grasshoppers that came along with the warm/dry weather! We got a little bit of an insight into what life was like back then. We've been continuing to hear perspectives from people - either through journals, diaries, newspaper articles, and more! By hearing accounts of people and looking at photos/videos, it helps us gain more insight into the lives of Albertans. We finished our timelines this week, and our notes! Students did great with them! We will have a quiz next Thursday, May 31st. I will send home a small study guide on Monday. Students will have a bit of time on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to study in class (approximately 30 minutes each day). Hopefully this will help prepare them!
