In common with the other French classes 4C and 4F are also learning to say the alphabet in French. In class we practiced how to say, "Je m'appelle ____" then students spelled their names in French. Our other area of study recently has been family/kinship terms in French. Students learned that when talking about a female family member they should use ma/ta (my/your) and when speaking about a male they use mon/ton (my/your). It was briefly explained that one can use 'mes' (my plural) to describe more than one person, though the majority of practice in class has focused on the essential difference between masculine and feminine nouns. This is an essential feature of French grammar that is largely lacking in English. Students were made aware that 'mon' must be used in conjunction with a masculine noun and 'ma' must be used in conjunction with a feminine noun. All students have performed an introductory French skit in front of the class. Mr. Brewer is working on marking these skits in advance of the forthcoming parent/teacher conferences and they should be coming back shortly to students.
