Japan's national anthem is called Kimi ga Yo. It is the oldest national anthem in the world. The words of the song are based on a poem written in the Heian Period (794–1185 A.D.). While visiting Japan you may hear the anthem. It comes on television at the end of the programming day on NHK the national broadcaster. It is played on special occasions such as holidays and graduation ceremonies. Indeed, I heard it this weekend at my own daughter's graduation ceremony from Japanese school.
