Math – This week, students continued their work in the measurement portion of the curriculum. They began to explore area using geometric shapes and square units. Students learned that they can quickly multiply length x width to find the area of rectangles, rather than counting all the square units. 4E students are a little ahead of 4F students in math as a result of 4F's swim lessons this week. I will catch 4F students up on the area lessons next week during our Flex time! Prodigy – I have set up a perimeter assignment for 4E and 4F students to complete online in Prodigy. Please encourage your child to log-in over the weekend to work through the various challenges. Problem of the Week – This week's Problem of the Week is posted below. In this problem, students will need to use their measurement and fractions skills to find solutions to two questions. Good luck!
Estimation Station – There were 380 cm of ribbon in the Estimation Station jar this week. Congratulations to N.W. in 4E who came closest with an estimate of 370 cm. That was an incredible estimate! (4E: 1 / 4F: 1) Science – Students have continued to demonstrate great care for their green bean plants. Some plants are already over 20 cm tall! We will continue to monitor and observe the growth and needs of the plants during the coming weeks. Beginning on Monday, students will complete an independent research project for the plants unit. They will also collaborate with a small group to put together a short presentation for the class based on their independent research. Students may have some homework in Science next week! Celery donations needed: 4E and 4F students will be participating in a science lab next week involving celery! If you are able to donate a whole head/bunch of celery (including stalks with leaves), we would be most appreciative! We will need the celery donations on Monday, please and thank you. Swimming - 4F's had a great time swimming at Vivo this past week! Many thank you's to Ms. Rich, Ms. Tollefson and Mr. Woodall for volunteering their time to help supervise.
