Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful and fun Winter Break. I was very excited to see all of our Kodiaks back at school this week, and am looking forward to continuing our work together in the classroom! Math – This week was a busy one for 4E and 4F students. Students wrapped up the addition unit by completing a collaborative crossword activity and addition with shapes task in partner groupings. Students also independently completed a series of addition problems as a review activity, and then finally a quiz. Both the review and quiz have since been graded and sent home for parental review/initial. Students are reminded to bring their math duotangs back to school on Monday with all tasks for any and all units this term completed. Prodigy/Problem of the Week - Students are always encouraged to log into Prodigy at home in their spare time to brush up on their math skills and understanding of concepts. They are currently working through a series of Telling Time concepts in Prodigy, as we are nearing this unit in our classroom. Estimation Station – There were 105 coloured elastics in the Estimation Station jar this week. Congratulations to D.C. in 4F who estimated this number right on the nose! Well done, D.C. That was an amazing estimate! We will look forward to seeing what D.C.'s challenge will be for us next week. Science – Our studies continued in the Light and Shadows unit this week. Students continued their Independent Research Project on laptop computers, as they explored various websites to learn about the sun's light, shadows, reflection and refraction. We will take this new learning and understanding into our hands next week, when we experiment with light, shadows and objects that reflect and refract. It will be a great week of hands-on learning! Miscellaneous – New Kodiak hoodies are available to purchase! Black and red hoodies are available in ALL sizes. Payment can be made in the office via cheque/credit/debit or in the P.E. office via cash/cheque. Cost is $30.00. Have fun wearing your hoodie on Kodiak Fridays!
