Math – This week, students continued to explore multiplication concepts and strategies. They learned how to use utilize their understanding of skip counting and halves/doubles concepts when multiplying, and are able to better visualize multiplication problems as we discussed and studied patterns in charts and how to accurately add groups. 4E and 4F students are reminded that their basic facts Multiplication Booklets are due on Monday for evaluation. Students are encouraged to log into Prodigy to complete the assigned set of multiplication challenges. They should also to continue to practice their basic facts at home for a minimum of 10 minutes per day. If you are looking for other ways to challenge your child in multiplication, here are two amazing websites: www.teachingwithsimplicity.com/2013/06/10-ways-to-practice-multiplication-facts.html mrsyoungsexplorers.blogspot.ca/2012/07/zap-it-math-game.html Problem of the Week – This week's Problem of the Week is posted below. It is a wonderful challenge for all my grade four students. Good luck!
Estimation Station – There were 365 coloured marshmallows in the Estimation Station jar this week. Congratulations to K.J. in 4E for estimating the closest with 339! Superb job! Science – Students began to construct their Balloon Rocket cars in class this week. Most were able to build and test their wheels and axles! We will finish the cars up next week in preparation for our races. 4E and 4F students are reminded that their Simple Machines booklets are due for evaluation on Monday! Flex –Next week, 4F students will begin the "Favorite Childhood Stories" project in Flex! Four students have already been selected to present their stories next week; they must remember to practice over the weekend and bring their books to school on Monday. Please check your child's agenda for their assigned due date in the coming weeks! Here is the assessment template I will use for this portion of the project: Miscellaneous – We really enjoyed the "Be Brave" Hitmen hockey game on Tuesday! I was most proud of 4F students for being so well behaved during the trip. We had amazing seats, right at ice level, and made many wonderful memories together in the "sea of pink"! I would like to thank Ms. Tollefson for volunteering her time to join us on the trip! Here are some photos from our time together at the Saddledome... 4F Art Option - Ms. Morhart has been enjoying working with 4F students in art this term. She sent me some photos of the students' work and I am very excited to share them with you on my blog. I cannot even believe these artworks belong to grade four students! BRAVO!
