Math – 4E and 4F students wrote their multiplication test on Monday, which marked the end of the unit. The tests have since been graded and returned to students for parental review/signatures. We are now working in the division unit! During the past few classes, students learned division vocabulary and viewed/discussed the division video posted below. They also worked in groups with manipulatives to solve a series of problems involving apples. Students were able to use division tables to independently complete two basic division tasks. The "Division Facts A" task is due on Monday. Prodigy – Students enjoyed working online in Prodigy today! They are currently working through a series of 10 assigned division problems and are encouraged to log in on their own time at home to ensure the problems are complete. Problem of the Week – There is no problem assigned this week. I'll post our next one after Spring Break! Estimation Station – There were 237 chocolate chips in the Estimation Station jar this week. Congratulations to D.O. in 4F for guessing that number right on the nose! Brilliant job! Science – Students wrote a short simple machines quiz on Wednesday. These quizzes will be graded over the weekend and distributed to students next week. This week, 4E and 4F students learned that gears are also important simple machines. A gear is just a wheel with teeth, sometimes called a cog. To do any work with a gear, you need to have at least two cogs with their teeth fitting into each other. Because the teeth fit together, when you turn one gear, the other one turns too! Gears come in many different sizes, which help them do work. Students will continue to learn about gears by exploring online games (see the link below) and constructing various machines with K'nex kits! Monthly Letters – Students wrote March's Monthly Letter today. Please read, sign and have your child return the journal on Monday. Flex – We continue to enjoy 4F's favorite childhood stories during our Flex time after lunch. Next week, N.R., M.L. and L.W. will share their stories!
